What Does Porting Mean?

Porting allows an approved resource family to transfer their resource family approval from one agency or county to another without restarting the entire process.

While some updates and documentation are required, porting allows you to continue fostering while transitioning to an agency that may better support your home and the youth in your care.

Support for Specialized Care

Many families considering porting are caring for youth with higher or more specialized needs. Koinonia provides training and clinical support to help families feel equipped and confident in these placements, including care for youth with medical or behavioral health needs.

If your home provides specialized care, our team can walk you through the additional supports available to you.

At Koinonia, resource parents play an essential role in supporting youth navigating complex challenges. We partner with families who are committed to:

We will walk through these expectations in more detail during your Porting Orientation to ensure Koinonia is the right fit for your family.

 

What to Expect When Porting

While each situation is unique, the process typically includes:

  • Attend a Porting Orientation
  • Meet with our team to review your current approval and documentation
  • Complete any required updates to your home assessment, including Live Scan
  • Finalize the transition so you can continue fostering with Koinonia
